What to Bring to Your Tax Appointment

A little preparation makes your appointment faster and helps make sure nothing gets missed. Here's what to have ready before you sit down with I&N Accounting.

You don't need to have everything perfectly organized — bring what you have, and we'll sort out what's needed. But gathering these categories ahead of time will make your appointment go much faster.

Personal Identification

  • Government-issued photo ID (for you and your spouse, if filing jointly)
  • Social Security cards or ITIN letters for you, your spouse, and any dependents
  • Dates of birth for everyone on the return
  • Bank account and routing numbers, if you want direct deposit for a refund

Income Documents

  • W-2 forms from every employer
  • 1099 forms (1099-NEC, 1099-MISC, 1099-INT, 1099-DIV, 1099-R, 1099-K, 1099-G, etc.)
  • Self-employment or business income records, including totals from bookkeeping or bank statements
  • K-1 forms from partnerships, S corporations, trusts, or estates
  • Records of rental income, if applicable
  • Unemployment compensation statements
  • Social Security benefit statements (SSA-1099)

Deduction & Expense Records

  • Mortgage interest statement (Form 1098)
  • Property tax bills or statements
  • Student loan interest statement (Form 1098-E)
  • Tuition statements (Form 1098-T) and education expense records
  • Childcare provider name, address, and tax ID, plus amount paid
  • Charitable donation receipts
  • Medical expense records, if significant
  • Business expense records, mileage logs, and receipts for self-employed clients
  • Health insurance documentation (Form 1095-A, if you purchased coverage through the marketplace)
  • Records of estimated tax payments already made for the year

Prior-Year Return

If this is your first appointment with us, please bring a copy of last year's federal and state tax returns. This helps us carry forward important details — prior-year Adjusted Gross Income for e-filing verification, carryover losses, depreciation schedules, and anything else that needs continuity from year to year.
